How to Wear Wraparound Sunglasses When You're Not at a Festival

The wraparound has stopped waiting for summer. Our field notes caught it courtside at the US Open, on a late-night talk show sofa and in blue mirror at the Winter Olympics.

Ask anyone how to wear wraparound sunglasses and the answer usually comes with a setting attached: a bike, a ski lift, a festival field. We covered that last one in our festival season read. This is about everywhere else.

Over the last eight months the wrap has turned up at a tennis final, on a late-night talk show, at a Sports Illustrated event and in the stands at the Winter Olympics. Indoors, after dark, in February. None of these people were dressing for glare. They wore the shape because a curved frame sharpens an outfit the way a good coat does, and because the sporty association has worn off enough that it now reads as a choice rather than kit.

The trick, across all five looks, is the same. Keep everything else quiet. A wrap is already doing a lot of work at the temple, so it wants a clean neckline and hair off the face.

The real decision is not colour, it is scale. Oversized frames like Radar, Juno and Theo give you the full Y2K curve and cover more of the face. Mid-scale frames like Nova, Flux and Specter give you the shape at the proportion of an everyday pair. New to the shape, start mid. Already wear big sunglasses, go oversized. Our oversized vs narrow guide goes deeper on proportion.

Here is how five people made it work, and the frames that get you there.

Jennie, BLACKPINK, Y2K wraparound trend

Bustle picked Jennie out as the face of the Y2K wrap revival this summer, and the post shows why. Black frame, black lens, nothing competing with it. Separately, she was photographed out in New York on 2 May in Ray-Ban's RB 4335 wraparound in black, a low-profile wrap that sits closer to an everyday pair than to anything athletic. Specter and Flux are both mid-scale wraparounds, the proportion of her Ray-Bans. Flux also comes in a solid lens if you want the flat black read rather than a mirror.

Tate McRae, US Open, New York

Tate McRae wore the Dior VeryDior S3I in black to opening night and again to the men's final. Wearing the same pair to the first night and the last is the clearest sign of a frame that has become a default, not an accessory picked for the occasion. That is the strongest argument for a black wrap: it is the one shape that can do every day of a fortnight. Theo is the oversized wrap that comes in a solid lens, the closest read to the Dior. Juno is the same scale in mirror if you want more edge.

Snoop Dogg, Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics

Midway through the Winter Olympics, Snoop Dogg wore the Ray-Ban x A$AP Rocky Ultra Wrap in blue mirror. A wraparound in February, at a winter games, on someone who is not competing. The lens is the point. Blue mirror takes the shape from functional to futuristic, and it reads as a statement from across a rink. Radar and Juno are both oversized wraparounds with a mirror finish, which is the whole of this look: a big curve and a lens you cannot see into.

Jordan Chiles, Sports Illustrated Beyond the Pitch, New York

Jordan Chiles wore the Miu Miu MU B14SU in white with brown lenses. The only pale frame in this edit, and the most useful lesson in it. A light frame with a warm lens softens the wrap completely. It reads polished rather than technical, and it is the easiest version of the shape to wear with colour. Theo and Flux both come in solid and mirror, so you can choose between the flat warmth of a tinted lens and a reflective finish. Theo is oversized, Flux the mid-scale alternative.

Anne Hathaway, The Late Show, New York

Anne Hathaway wore the Oliver Peoples OV5625SU in black on The Late Show. This is the look that makes the case. A wraparound on a talk show sofa, under studio lights. Nothing about the setting asks for sunglasses, which is exactly why it works: the frame is part of the outfit, not protection from anything. Nova and Specter are mid-scale wraps with a mirror finish. They keep the curve without the bulk, which is the register Hathaway wore it in.

Questions

How do you wear wraparound sunglasses without looking sporty?

Keep the rest of the outfit simple and pick a black or warm-toned lens over a bright performance mirror. Tate McRae and Anne Hathaway both wore black wraps with nothing else competing, and the frame read as fashion, not sportswear. A mid-scale frame helps too.

Do wraparound sunglasses suit a small face?

Yes, at the right scale. A mid-scale wrap such as Nova, Flux or Specter keeps the curve without covering the whole face. Oversized wraps such as Radar, Juno and Theo suit medium to larger faces, or anyone who wants the full mask effect.

Are wraparound sunglasses still in style in 2026?

Yes, and the shape has moved well beyond summer. In 2026 it turned up at the Winter Olympics in February, on a late-night talk show in April and at the US Open in September, indoors and after dark as often as in the sun.

What is the difference between mirrored and solid lenses on a wraparound?

A mirrored lens reflects light off its surface and hides the eyes, which pushes the look bolder and more futuristic. A solid lens is flatter and quieter, and reads more classic. Theo and Flux come in both, so you can choose on look alone.
